הנודר לה' דרך קדושה הרי זה נאה ומשובח ועל זה נאמר נזר אלהיו על ראשו קדש הוא לה', ושקלו הכתוב כנביא (שנאמר) "ואקים מבניכם לנביאים ומבחוריכם לנזירים".
Rambam, Laws of the Nazzarite 10:15
...If a person takes a nazirite vow to Gd in a holy manner, this is delightful and praiseworthy and concerning this [Numbers 6:7-8] states: "The diadem of his Gd is upon his head...He is holy unto Gd.". And Scripture equates him with a prophet, as [Amos 2:11] states: "And from your sons, I will raise [some] as prophets, and from your youths, [some] as nazirites." |
(טז) דָּ֖ן יָדִ֣ין עַמּ֑וֹ כְּאַחַ֖ד שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (יז) יְהִי־דָן֙ נָחָ֣שׁ עֲלֵי־דֶ֔רֶךְ שְׁפִיפֹ֖ן עֲלֵי־אֹ֑רַח הַנֹּשֵׁךְ֙ עִקְּבֵי־ס֔וּס וַיִּפֹּ֥ל רֹכְב֖וֹ אָחֽוֹר׃ (יח) לִֽישׁוּעָתְךָ֖ קִוִּ֥יתִי יְהוָֽ-ה׃
(16) Dan shall judge his people, As one of the tribes of Israel. (17) Dan shall be a serpent in the way, A horned snake in the path, That bites the horse’s heels, So that his rider falls backward. (18) I wait for Your salvation, O Lord.
(א) דן ידין עמו. ינקם נקמת עמו מפלשתים, כמו (דברים לב לו) כי ידין ה' עמו:
(ב) כאחד שבטי ישראל
כל ישראל יהיו כאחד עמו ואת כלם ידין, ועל שמשון נבא נבואה זו ...
Dan shall judge his people
He will avenge his people from the Philistenes as it says (Deut. 32:36) "For the Lord will judge His people"
As one of the tribes of Israel
All of Israel will be as one with him and he will judge them all. And it will be on Shimshon that this prophecy will come ...
(ב) הנשך עקבי סוס
כך דרכו של נחש, ודמהו לנחש הנושך עקבי סוס, ונופל רכבו אחור שלא נגע בו ודוגמתו מצינו בשמשון (שופטים טז כט) וילפת שמשון את שני עמודי התוך וגו' ושעל הגג מתו...
That bites the horse's heels
Such is the way of the snake, compared to a snake who bites the horse's heels, and his rider falls backwards [even though] he was not touched. An example we find by Shimshon (Judges 16:29) "Shimshon grasped the two central pillars..." and [the people] on the roof died...
(א) לישועתך קויתי ה'.
נתנבא שינקרו פלשתים את עיניו, וסופו לומר (שופטים טז כח) זכרני נא וחזקני נא אך הפעם וגו'
I wait for Your Salvation O Lord:
[Yaakov] prophesized that the Philistenes would gouge out his (Shimshon's) eyes and at his end would say (Judges 16:28) "Remember me and strengthen me just this one time..."
שופטים י"ג ג-ה
ג וַיֵּרָא מַלְאַךְ-יְהוָ-ה, אֶל-הָאִשָּׁה; וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֶיהָ, הִנֵּה-נָא אַתְּ-עֲקָרָה וְלֹא יָלַדְתְּ, וְהָרִית, וְיָלַדְתְּ בֵּן.
ד וְעַתָּה הִשָּׁמְרִי נָא, וְאַל-תִּשְׁתִּי יַיִן וְשֵׁכָר; וְאַל-תֹּאכְלִי, כָּל-טָמֵא.
ה כִּי הִנָּךְ הָרָה וְיֹלַדְתְּ בֵּן, וּמוֹרָה לֹא-יַעֲלֶה עַל-רֹאשׁוֹ--כִּי-נְזִיר אֱלֹהִים יִהְיֶה הַנַּעַר, מִן-הַבָּטֶן; וְהוּא, יָחֵל לְהוֹשִׁיעַ אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל--מִיַּד פְּלִשְׁתִּים.
Judges 13:3-5
3 And the angel of the LORD appeared to the woman, and said to her: 'Behold now, you are barren, and have not borne; but you shall conceive, and bear a son.
4 Now therefore beware, I pray you, and drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing.
5 For, lo, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come upon his head; for the child shall be a Nazirite unto God from the womb; and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.'
שופטים י"ד ג-ד
גוַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ אָבִיו וְאִמּוֹ, הַאֵין בִּבְנוֹת אַחֶיךָ וּבְכָל-עַמִּי אִשָּׁה--כִּי-אַתָּה הוֹלֵךְ לָקַחַת אִשָּׁה, מִפְּלִשְׁתִּים הָעֲרֵלִים; וַיֹּאמֶר שִׁמְשׁוֹן אֶל-אָבִיו אוֹתָהּ קַח-לִי, כִּי-הִיא יָשְׁרָה בְעֵינָי.
ד וְאָבִיו וְאִמּוֹ לֹא יָדְעוּ, כִּי מֵיְהוָה הִיא--כִּי-תֹאֲנָה הוּא-מְבַקֵּשׁ, מִפְּלִשְׁתִּים;
וּבָעֵת הַהִיא, פְּלִשְׁתִּים מֹשְׁלִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל.
Judges 14:3-4
3 Then his father and his mother said to him: 'Is there no woman among the daughters of your brothers, or among all my people, that you are going to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines?' And Shimshon said to his father: 'Get her for me; for she pleases me.'
4 But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD; for He sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel.
שופטים י"ד ה-ו
ה וַיֵּרֶד שִׁמְשׁוֹן וְאָבִיו וְאִמּוֹ, תִּמְנָתָה; וַיָּבֹאוּ, עַד-כַּרְמֵי תִמְנָתָה, וְהִנֵּה כְּפִיר אֲרָיוֹת, שֹׁאֵג לִקְרָאתוֹ.
ו וַתִּצְלַח עָלָיו רוּחַ יְהוָה, וַיְשַׁסְּעֵהוּ כְּשַׁסַּע הַגְּדִי, וּמְאוּמָה, אֵין בְּיָדוֹ; וְלֹא הִגִּיד לְאָבִיו וּלְאִמּוֹ, אֵת אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה.
Judges 14:5-6
5 Then went Shimshon down, and his father and his mother, to Timnah, and came to the vineyards of Timnah; and, behold, a young lion roared against him. 6 And the spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as one would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand; but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
שופטים י"ד י"ט
יט וַתִּצְלַח עָלָיו רוּחַ יְהוָ-ה, וַיֵּרֶד אַשְׁקְלוֹן וַיַּךְ מֵהֶם שְׁלֹשִׁים אִישׁ וַיִּקַּח אֶת-חֲלִיצוֹתָם, וַיִּתֵּן הַחֲלִיפוֹת, לְמַגִּידֵי הַחִידָה; וַיִּחַר אַפּוֹ, וַיַּעַל בֵּית אָבִיהוּ.
Judges 14:19
19 And the spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and smote thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave the changes of raiment unto them that declared the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.
שופטים ט"ו י"ד-ט"ו
יד הוּא-בָא עַד-לֶחִי, וּפְלִשְׁתִּים הֵרִיעוּ לִקְרָאתוֹ; וַתִּצְלַח עָלָיו רוּחַ יְהוָה, וַתִּהְיֶינָה הָעֲבֹתִים אֲשֶׁר עַל-זְרוֹעוֹתָיו כַּפִּשְׁתִּים אֲשֶׁר בָּעֲרוּ בָאֵשׁ, וַיִּמַּסּוּ אֱסוּרָיו, מֵעַל יָדָיו. טו וַיִּמְצָא לְחִי-חֲמוֹר, טְרִיָּה; וַיִּשְׁלַח יָדוֹ וַיִּקָּחֶהָ, וַיַּךְ-בָּהּ אֶלֶף אִישׁ.
Judges 15:14-15
14 When he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him; and the spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the ropes that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands dropped from off his hands. 15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and smote a thousand men therewith.

יח וַיִּצְמָא, מְאֹד, וַיִּקְרָא אֶל-יְהוָ-ה וַיֹּאמַר, אַתָּה נָתַתָּ בְיַד-עַבְדְּךָ אֶת-הַתְּשׁוּעָה הַגְּדֹלָה הַזֹּאת; וְעַתָּה אָמוּת בַּצָּמָא, וְנָפַלְתִּי בְּיַד הָעֲרֵלִים. יט וַיִּבְקַע אֱלֹהִי-ם אֶת-הַמַּכְתֵּשׁ אֲשֶׁר-בַּלֶּחִי, וַיֵּצְאוּ מִמֶּנּוּ מַיִם וַיֵּשְׁתְּ, וַתָּשָׁב רוּחוֹ, וַיֶּחִי; עַל-כֵּן קָרָא שְׁמָהּ, עֵין הַקּוֹרֵא אֲשֶׁר בַּלֶּחִי, עַד, הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה.
כ וַיִּשְׁפֹּט אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל בִּימֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים, עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה.
Judges 15:18-20
18 And he had a great thirst, and called on the LORD, and said: 'You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant; and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?' 19 So Gd cleaved the hollow place that is in Lehi [the jawbone], and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came back, and he revived; wherefore the name thereof was called En-hakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day. 20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
(יז) וַיַּגֶּד־לָ֣הּ אֶת־כָּל־לִבּ֗וֹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהּ֙ מוֹרָה֙ לֹֽא־עָלָ֣ה עַל־רֹאשִׁ֔י כִּֽי־נְזִ֧יר אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֲנִ֖י מִבֶּ֣טֶן אִמִּ֑י אִם־גֻּלַּ֙חְתִּי֙ וְסָ֣ר מִמֶּ֣נִּי כֹחִ֔י וְחָלִ֥יתִי וְהָיִ֖יתִי כְּכָל־הָאָדָֽם׃ ... (יט) וַתְּיַשְּׁנֵ֙הוּ֙ עַל־בִּרְכֶּ֔יהָ וַתִּקְרָ֣א לָאִ֔ישׁ וַתְּגַלַּ֕ח אֶת־שֶׁ֖בַע מַחְלְפ֣וֹת רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַתָּ֙חֶל֙ לְעַנּוֹת֔וֹ וַיָּ֥סַר כֹּח֖וֹ מֵעָלָֽיו׃ (כ) וַתֹּ֕אמֶר פְּלִשְׁתִּ֥ים עָלֶ֖יךָ שִׁמְשׁ֑וֹן וַיִּקַ֣ץ מִשְּׁנָת֗וֹ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֵצֵ֞א כְּפַ֤עַם בְּפַ֙עַם֙ וְאִנָּעֵ֔ר וְהוּא֙ לֹ֣א יָדַ֔ע כִּ֥י יְהוָ֖-ה סָ֥ר מֵעָלָֽיו׃
(17) And he told her all his heart, and said unto her: ‘There has not come a razor upon my head; for I have been a Nazirite unto Gd from my mother’s womb; if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.’ ...(19) And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and had the seven locks of his head shaven off; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. (20) And she said: ‘The Philistines are upon thee, Shimshon.’ And he awoke out of his sleep, and said: ‘I will go out as at other times, and shake myself.’ But he knew not that the LORD was departed from him.
שופטים ט"ז כ"א-כ"ב
כא וַיֹּאחֲזוּהוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים, וַיְנַקְּרוּ אֶת-עֵינָיו; וַיּוֹרִידוּ אוֹתוֹ עַזָּתָה, וַיַּאַסְרוּהוּ בַּנְחֻשְׁתַּיִם, וַיְהִי טוֹחֵן, בְּבֵית האסירים (הָאֲסוּרִים). כב וַיָּחֶל שְׂעַר-רֹאשׁוֹ לְצַמֵּחַ, כַּאֲשֶׁר גֻּלָּח.
Judges 16:21-22
21 And the Philistines laid hold on him, and put out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison-house. 22 And the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.
שופטים ט"ז כ"ח-ל"א
כח וַיִּקְרָא שִׁמְשׁוֹן אֶל-יְהוָ-ה, וַיֹּאמַר: אֲדֹנָי יְהוִ-ה זָכְרֵנִי נָא וְחַזְּקֵנִי נָא אַךְ הַפַּעַם הַזֶּה, הָאֱלֹהִים, וְאִנָּקְמָה נְקַם-אַחַת מִשְּׁתֵי עֵינַי, מִפְּלִשְׁתִּים. כט וַיִּלְפֹּת שִׁמְשׁוֹן אֶת-שְׁנֵי עַמּוּדֵי הַתָּוֶךְ, אֲשֶׁר הַבַּיִת נָכוֹן עֲלֵיהֶם, וַיִּסָּמֵךְ, עֲלֵיהֶם--אֶחָד בִּימִינוֹ, וְאֶחָד בִּשְׂמֹאלוֹ. ל וַיֹּאמֶר שִׁמְשׁוֹן, תָּמוֹת נַפְשִׁי עִם-פְּלִשְׁתִּים,.. וַיִּהְיוּ הַמֵּתִים, אֲשֶׁר הֵמִית בְּמוֹתוֹ, רַבִּים, מֵאֲשֶׁר הֵמִית בְּחַיָּיו.
וְהוּא שָׁפַט אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל, עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה.
Judges 16:28-31
28 And Samson called unto the LORD, and said: 'O Lord GD, remember me, I pray Thee, and strengthen me, I pray of You, only this once, O Gd, that I may be this once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.' 29 And Samson took fast hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house rested, and leaned upon them, the one with his right hand, and the other with his left. 30 And Samson said: 'Let me die with the Philistines.' ... So the dead that he slew at his death were more than they that he slew in his life...
And he judged Israel twenty years.

איזהו גבור? הכובש את יצרו, שנאמר (משלי טז לב): "טוב ארך אפים מגבור ומשל ברוחו מלכד עיר" ...
