(4) Such is the story of heaven and earth when they were created. When the Eternal (YHVH) God made earth and heaven— (5) when no shrub of the field was yet on earth and no grasses of the field had yet sprouted, because the Eternal God had not sent rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the soil, (6) but a flow would well up from the ground and water the whole surface of the earth— (7) the Eternal God formed the human from the dust of the earth. God blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and the human became a living being.

(5) Thus said God the Eternal (YHVH), Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread out the earth and what it brings forth, Who gave breath to the people upon it And life to those who walk thereon: (6) I the Eternal have called you in justice, and I have grasped you by the hand. I created you, and appointed you A covenant people, a light of nations— (7) Opening eyes deprived of light, Rescuing prisoners from confinement, and those who sit in dungeons from darkness. (8) I am the Eternal (YHVH), that is My name; I will not yield My glory to another, Nor My renown to idols. (9) See, the things once predicted have come, and now I foretell new things, announcing them to you before they sprout forth. (10) Sing to the Eternal a new song, God's praise from the ends of the earth— You who sail the sea and you creatures in it, all you coastlands and their inhabitants!
The meaning of "a living being" is that the first human walked immediately, like animals, and not like [human] babies.
"These are the generations of heaven and earth" (Gen 2:4). Rabbi Simeon ben Halafta said: Great is peace, for when the Holy One created the world, God made peace between the upper and lower realms (i.e. heavens and earth.) Thus, what God created on the first day, God created out of both upper and lower realms, as it is said "When God began to create the heaven and earth" (Gen 1:1). What God created on the second day, God created out of the upper realm, as it is said "Let there be a firmament" (Gen 1:6). What God created on the third day, God created out of the lower realm, as it is said "Let the earth put forth grass..." (Gen 1:11). What God created on the fourth day, God created out of the upper realm, as it is said, "Let there be lights..." (Gen 1:14). On the fifth day, it was from the lower realm, as it is said "Let the waters swarm..." (Gen 1:20). On the sixth day, as God was about to create the first human, God said "If I create Adam out of the upper realm, they will outnumber the lower realms by one; but if I create Adam out of the lower realms, they will outnumber the upper realms by one, and there will be no peace in the universe! I will therefore create humans from both the upper and lower realms, as it is said, "Then the Eternal God formed Adam from the dust of the ground" (Gen 2:7), from the lower realm, and continues "and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life" (Gen 2:7), from the upper realm.
