I Took You Out of Egypt

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֱלֹהִ֔ים אֵ֛ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה לֵאמֹֽר׃ (ס) אָֽנֹכִ֖י֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֧ר הוֹצֵאתִ֛יךָ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם מִבֵּ֣֥ית עֲבָדִֽ֑ים׃
God spoke all these words, saying: I the LORD am your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, the house of bondage:
A Few Questions to Get You Started
  • This is the beginning of God's big revelation (speech) to the Israelites. Why do you think that He chose to begin with saying that He took them out of Egypt?
  • This is the first of the ten commandments. Do you think that this is really a commandment? If so, what is God commanding them to do?
