Learning goals:
-
How might Sefaria sheets help students to work independently while preparing, acquiring, and reviewing material?
-
How might sheets help teachers organize ideas and materials?
-
How might students use Sefaria sheets to share, teach, or articulate their contributions to the ongoing conversation around Torah?
Today's session will focus on teachers and students creating sheets. We won't be teaching how to make a sheet on Sefaria. If you have not yet made a sheet or if you need to review the mechanics, check out this webinar recording for step-by-step instructions on how to create, edit, share, and print Sefaria sheets. You can also read through our Help Center pages,“Making a Sefaria Source Sheet” and “Formatting Sheets”.
What is a Sefaria sheet?
- A sheet is a user created webpage which can include sources from the Sefaria library, outside texts, media, and comments.
- Sheets are connected to the Sefaria library and, if listed, are searchable.
- Sheets can be shared.
- Sheets can always be edited and adapted.
- Sheets are a great way to collect your ideas, teach others, and contribute to the Sefaria library.
How can Sefaria sheets help me to prepare and organize my lessons?
- Sheets can be a place to gather ideas and a way to organize materials
- Tag your sheets for easy sorting
- Create a collection to store your sheets.
- The Sefaria sheets library can prevent you from “reinventing the wheel”
- Adapt an existing sheet - The Sefaria library includes thousands of sheets on a variety of topics. A sheet that works perfectly for one setting might not be exactly what you are looking for, but it can be a good starting point. Copy the sheet and edit it to fit your needs and teaching style.
- Avail yourself of public collections - Collections such as the Sefaria student course, Developing Independent Learning Skills, and Seder on Sefaria contain sheets that are ready to go and perfect for the busy teacher.
How Might Students use Sefaria Sheets to Share, Teach or Articulate their Torah?
- Introduce your students to creating sheets with Have You Heard My Favorite Song - Creating a Sefaria Source Sheet. This independent learning activity walks your students through the steps of creating a sheet. Students choose a favorite song and find a Jewish text that connects in some way.
- Combine traditional texts with original thought
- Research a topic and teach it to others
- Students can combine texts with art, photography, video or any other creative medium, on a sheet.
- Interdisciplinary activities - combine Torah with other subjects
- Students can share their Torah by publishing their sheets and adding them to the Sefaria library.
