The Lulav as a Model for Welcoming the Stranger
All such things are wearisome:
No man can ever state them;
The eye never has enough of seeing,
Nor the ear enough of hearing.

The eye can't have enough of seeing the needs of others, lips can't have enough of speaking out for others, and the heart can't have enough of feeling for others. It is within us all that we should stand up for each other, both our neighbors and the strangers.

Only that shall happen
Which has happened,
Only that occur
Which has occurred;
There is nothing new
Beneath the sun!
What was aforetime, the same will be afterwards again, and what was done aforetime the same will be done again to the end of all generations, and there is no new thing in the world under the sun.

We are called to welcome and stand up for the stranger just as our ancestors were called to do once before. There is nothing new under the sun!
