(שופטים יג, ה) והוא יחל להושיע את ישראל אמר רבי חמא ברבי חנינאהוחל שבועתו של אבימלך דכתיב (בראשית כא, כג) אם תשקר לי ולניני ולנכדי
.... We learned in a Mishnah שמשון followed his eyes, therefore, the פלשתים poked out his eyes, as it says the פלשתים poked out his eyes. אבשלום showed off with his hair, therefore, he was hung with his hair. And because he came on 10 of his father's concubines, therefore, they put into him 10 spears as it says "10 men, the bearers of Yoav's armor, surrounded him." And because he stole 3 thefts; the heart of his father , the heart of the court, and the heart of the Jews. (As it says "And אבשלום stole the heart of the Jewish men." Therefore, three spears were thrust into him. As it says, " And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them into אבשלום heart." And so too, with regards to the good. מרים waited for משה one hour, as it says, "And his sister stood from afar." Therefore the Jews delayed for her seven days in the desert as it says, "And the nation didn't travel until מרים joined them." יוסף merited to bury his father and none of his brothers were greater than him as it says, "יוסף went to bury his father and up with him went both chariots and horsemen." יוסף was rewarded measure for measure for his good deed that none other then משה attended to him.משה merited to [attend to] the bones of יוסף, and there was no other in Israel greater than him, as it says, "משה took the bones of יוסף with him." Who was greater than משה, that none but the almighty attended to him as it says, "He buried him in the valley."Not regarding משה alone that they said this, but regarding all of the righteous, as it says, "Your righteousness shall go before you, and the glory of Hashem shall gather you in"The Rabbis taught in a Baraisa: שמשון rebelled with his eyes, as it says, "שמשון told his father, 'Take her for me, for she is fitting in my eyes." Therefore, the פלשתים poked out his eyes. As it says, "The פלשתים seized him and poked out his eyes." But, is it so?But, isn't it written, " His father and mother didn't know that it was from Hashem."?When he went at least, he followed what was proper in his eyes.We learned in a Bariasa; רבי said,"The beginning of his downfall was in Gaza, he was therefore hit in Gaza. 'The beginning of his downfall was in Gaza', for it was written 'שמשון went to Gaza and he saw a Harlot there etc.' 'He was, therefore, hit in Gaza,' for it is written 'They brought him down to Gaza." But it says, "שמשון went down to תמנת."? The beginning of his downfall, at least, was in Gaza. It happened after this that he loved a woman from נחל שורק her name was דלילה.It was taught in Baraisa רבי said ...Even if her name was not דלילה it would have been fitting that her name would be דלילה.She severed his strength, she severed his heart she severed his actions. She severed his strength, as it is written, "His strength departed from him." She severed his heart as it is written, "דלילה saw that he had told all [that was in] his heart." She severed his actions for the Divine presence departed from him as it is written,"But he did not know that Hashem had departed from him."דלילה saw that he had told all [that was in] his heart. How did she know?ר חנין said in the name of רב. True words are recognizable.אביי said,She knows about the righteous one that he would not utter the name of heaven in vain.As soon as he said "I am a nazir to G-d."Now she knew he was telling the truth."And it was after she tormented him with her words every day and pressed on."What does "She pressed him mean"?רבי יצחק of the academy of רבי אמי said,"At the time of the culmination of cohabiting , she would slip away from beneath him." And now be careful, and do not drink wine or aged wine, and do not eat anything contaminated. What "anything" contaminated. And furthermore, did she eat contaminated things until now.ר יצחק of the house of רבי אמי said.Things that are forbidden to nazir.God split open the hollow that was in the jawbone, ר יצחק of the house of רבי אמי said.שמשון desired a contaminated thing, therefore, his life was made dependent upon a contaminated thing. The spirit of Hashem began.ר חמא the son of ר' חנינא said. The prophecy of our forefather יעקבwas fulfilled, for it was written דן will be a serpent on the highway. To resound in him in the camp of דן.ר יצחק of the house of רבי אמי said.It teaches that the divine presence rang before him like a bell, It is written here To resound in him in the camp of דן. as it is written A bell and a pomegranate.Between Zorah and eshtaol.ר' אסי said. Zorah and eshtaol where two large mountains yet שמשון uprooted them and ground them together. And he will begin to save Israel from the hand of the philistines.ר חמא the son of ר' חנינא said."... and he called there on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God." (Genesis 21:33)Reish Lakish said:Don't read it "and he called,"

She was sitting in the field and her husband Manoah was not with her. (10) The woman ran in haste to tell her husband. She said to him, “The man who came to me before has just appeared to me.”
