Everything (other than God Himself was created by God out of absolute nothingness. In the beginning, God alone existed. There was nothing else. He then created everything that exists from absolute nothingness. It all followed His will and desire. Even time itself is among the things created by God. Time depends upon motion. In order for motion to exist, we must have things that move. And all things were created by God.

Bereishis Rabbah 1:9
A certain philosopher said to Rabban Gamliel: "Your G-d is a great artisan. He found good materials that helped Him: matter, ele-ments, darkness, wind, water, and murky waters." Rabban Gamliel answered: "Let this man be damned, for regarding each one of these materials, it is written that they were created! Regarding matter and elements, it is written, 'He forms light and creates dark-ness, makes peace, and creates evil' (Yeshayahu 45:7). Regarding water, it is written, Praise Him, highest of heavens and the water that is above the heavens... because He commanded, and they came into being (Tehillim 148:4-5). Regarding wind, it is written, 'He forms mountains and creates wind' (Amos 4:13). Regarding murky waters, it is written, 'When there were no depths, I was formed."
