You shall not turn to mediums nor seek out oracles; do not seek [them] out, so as to defile yourselves through them. I am Adonoy, your God.
DO NOT TURN [TO THE אבת NOR TO THE ידענים] — This is a warning addressed to the necromancers and the charmers themselves (not to the people who consult these tricksters). The בעל אוב, the controller of the spirit אוב, as the necromancer is called (cf. I Samuel 28:7), is identical with the פיתום (in Greek: πύξωυ); he is one who speaks out of his arm-pit; ידעני is one who puts a bone of an animal the name of which is ידוע into his mouth and the bone speaks (Sanhedrin 65b).
And I heard in the name of Rabbi Meir son of Rabbi Klonimos of Speyer that there is a creature whose name is Yadua, and it is the Yidoni written in the Torah, and from its bones they make a kind of sorcery. And a large cord emerges from a root in the ground where that creature named Yadua grows, like gourds and melons, but the Yadua's form is like a human form in every way, in the form of its face, body, hands, and feet. And from its navel a cord is connected that emerges from the root, and no creature may approach within the length of the cord, for it devours and kills within the length of the cord, and it grazes within its radius. And when they come to hunt her, no man is allowed to approach her, but they tear at the cord until it is broken, and it immediately dies.
Wild man-like creatures are [in the category of] hayyah. Rabbi Yose says: they cause impurity in a tent like a human being.
“ ‘Field Stones’ is an animal.” Yossi from Arke says that it is a mountain man and it lives from its navel. If its umbilical cord is cut, it cannot live. Rebbi Ḥama bar Uqba in the name of Rebbi Yose ben Ḥanina: The reason of Rebbi Yose (Num. 19:16): “All that touches [a slain person] on the surface of the field”, when it grows on the field.

For you will have a pact with the rocks in the field,
And the beasts of the field will be your allies.
the stones of the field. They are a type of man.
and the beasts of the field That is what is known as grosa(?) in Old French, and this is actually a beast of the field. In the language of the Mishnah and Toras Kohanim, they are called “adnei hasadeh.”
4208 / (Job 5:23) / Beasts of the field
This is one of the versions, preferred according to Louis Brandin (Les Gloses Françaises de Raschi dans la Bible). Rashi points to a frightening beast. The French word (of German origin: "man-wolf") refers to folk tales about humans who have turned into wolves.
They are creatures resembling human beings, and those who tell of the novelties of the world say that it speaks many unintelligible things, and its speech is like human speech. Its name is Al-Nasnas in Arabic, and they tell many things about it in books.
And the Adnei HaSadeh is mentioned in Mishnah Kilayim (Chapter 8) and according to Maimonides, they are creatures resembling humans. And in the Jerusalem Talmud there (Jerusalem Talmud Kilayim) it says "it is a mountain man and it lives from its navel..." And according to Maimonides, it would be the forrest man (called Orangutan or the species called chimpanzee).
[Talmud Yerushalmi refers to it as] A mountain man. It seems to me that this means the "forest man" known as the Orangutan, which is a large simian with a human-like body structure. However, its arms are long, reaching down to its knees, and it can be trained to chop wood, draw water, and even wear clothes like a human. It can also set the table and eat with a spoon, knife, and fork. In our time, it is only found in the large forests of Central Africa. However, it is likely that it was also found in the vicinity of the Land of Israel, in the mountains of Lebanon, where there are still large forests of the famous cedars of Lebanon. This is why it is called the Mountain Man.
And many have interpreted that it is a creature in that looks like a human and is connected to the earth by a cord that comes out of its navel. And it is very dangerous (see Maaseh Tuviah). And when the rope is cut, it dies immediately. One should not wonder that it is not found in natural history books. Because in the same way, bones of several creatures whose memory has now been lost are found in the depths of the earth, such as the mammoth and the like, and perhaps due to their great danger, early humans drove them to extinction.

Maaseh Tuvia, 59a
I cannot refrain from writing what I've read in a new work on geogrpahy, which tells, incidentally, how the Africans (sic) in Great Tartary, in the province of Sambulala, are enriched by means of seeds like the seeds of gourds, only shorter in size, which grow and blossom like a stem to the navel of an animal which is called Borametz in their language, i.e. ‘lamb,’ on account of its resembling a lamb in all its limbs, from head to foot; its hoofs are cloven, its skin is soft, its wool is good for clothing, but it has no horns. However, the hairs of its head grow and are intertwined in a form resembling horns. Its height is half a cubit and more. According to those who speak of this wondrous thing, its taste is like the flesh of fish, its blood as sweet as honey, and it lives as long as there is grass within reach of the stem, from which it derives its life. If the grass is cut or dies out, the animal also dies. It has rest from all beasts and birds of prey, except the wolf, which seeks to kill it.

The unique virtue of plants (as compared to humans and animals) is that it does not hide its true source of life. It is continuously connected (through its roots) to its source, to the force of growth in the earth which makes it "live" and grow. When one uproots a plant from the earth it ceases to be a plant.
Animals and humans do not need to be connected to their root and source: They are note connected to the ground.*
* Note the Adnei HaSadeh (Kilayim 8:5). See Etz Chaim, beginning of Shaar 42, which says that it is the intermediary between plant and animal.
