The Problem

(1) You will win, O ETERNAL One, if I make claim against You, Yet I shall present charges against You: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are the workers of treachery at ease? (2) You have planted them, and they have taken root, They spread, they even bear fruit. You are present in their mouths, But far from their thoughts. (3) Yet You, ETERNAL One, have noted and observed me; You have tested my heart, and found it with You. Drive them out like sheep to the slaughter, Prepare them for the day of slaying!
Creation: not ex nihilo
Genesis 1:1-3
King James Version
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
(1) Speiser: 1 When God set about to create heaven and earth-2 the world being formless waste, with darkness over the seas and only an awesome wind sweeping over the water- 3 God said "let there be light." And there was light.
The Sea Monsters
(12) O God, my King from of old, who brings deliverance throughout the land; (13) it was You who drove back the sea with Your might, who smashed the heads of the monsters in the waters; (14) it was You who crushed the heads of Leviathan, who left him as food for the denizens of the desert; (15) it was You who released springs and torrents, who made mighty rivers run dry; (16) the day is Yours, the night also; it was You who set in place the orb of the sun; (17) You fixed all the boundaries of the earth; summer and winter—You made them.
(ט) עוּרִ֨י עוּרִ֤י לִבְשִׁי־עֹז֙ זְר֣וֹעַ יְהֹוָ֔ה ע֚וּרִי כִּ֣ימֵי קֶ֔דֶם דֹּר֖וֹת עוֹלָמִ֑ים הֲל֥וֹא אַתְּ־הִ֛יא הַמַּחְצֶ֥בֶת רַ֖הַב מְחוֹלֶ֥לֶת תַּנִּֽין׃ (י) הֲל֤וֹא אַתְּ־הִיא֙ הַמַּחֲרֶ֣בֶת יָ֔ם מֵ֖י תְּה֣וֹם רַבָּ֑ה הַשָּׂ֙מָה֙ מַֽעֲמַקֵּי־יָ֔ם דֶּ֖רֶךְ לַעֲבֹ֥ר גְּאוּלִֽים׃ (יא) וּפְדוּיֵ֨י יְהֹוָ֜ה יְשׁוּב֗וּן וּבָ֤אוּ צִיּוֹן֙ בְּרִנָּ֔ה וְשִׂמְחַ֥ת עוֹלָ֖ם עַל־רֹאשָׁ֑ם שָׂשׂ֤וֹן וְשִׂמְחָה֙ יַשִּׂיג֔וּן נָ֖סוּ יָג֥וֹן וַאֲנָחָֽה׃ {ס}
(9) Awake, awake, clothe yourself with splendor. O arm of the ETERNAL One! Awake as in days of old, As in former ages! It was you that hacked Rahab in pieces, That pierced the Dragon. (10) It was you that dried up the Sea, The waters of the great deep; That made the abysses of the Sea A road the redeemed might walk. (11) So let GOD’s ransomed return, And come with shouting to Zion, Crowned with joy everlasting. Let them attain joy and gladness, While sorrow and sighing flee.
The Survival of Chaos
(6) You made the deep cover it as a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. (7) They fled at Your blast, rushed away at the sound of Your thunder, (8) —mountains rising, valleys sinking— to the place You established for them. (9) You set bounds they must not pass so that they never again cover the earth.
(25) Can you draw out Leviathan by a fishhook? Can you press down his tongue by a rope? (26) Can you put a ring through his nose, Or pierce his jaw with a barb? (27) Will he plead with you at length? Will he speak soft words to you? (28) Will he make an agreement with you To be taken as your lifelong slave? (29) Will you play with him like a bird, And tie him down for your girls? (30) Shall traders traffic in him? Will he be divided up among merchants? (31) Can you fill his skin with darts Or his head with fish-spears? (32) Lay a hand on him, And you will never think of battle again.
The Cosmic Battle at the End of Days
(א) בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֡וּא יִפְקֹ֣ד יְהֹוָה֩ בְּחַרְבּ֨וֹ הַקָּשָׁ֜ה וְהַגְּדוֹלָ֣ה וְהַחֲזָקָ֗ה עַ֤ל לִוְיָתָן֙ נָחָ֣שׁ בָּרִ֔חַ וְעַל֙ לִוְיָתָ֔ן נָחָ֖שׁ עֲקַלָּת֑וֹן וְהָרַ֥ג אֶת־הַתַּנִּ֖ין אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּיָּֽם׃ {ס}
(1) In that day GOD will punish With a great, cruel, mighty sword Leviathan the Elusive Serpent— Leviathan the Twisting Serpent; The Dragon of the sea will be slain.
(ו) וְעָשָׂה֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת לְכׇל־הָֽעַמִּים֙ בָּהָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה מִשְׁתֵּ֥ה שְׁמָנִ֖ים מִשְׁתֵּ֣ה שְׁמָרִ֑ים שְׁמָנִים֙ מְמֻ֣חָיִ֔ם שְׁמָרִ֖ים מְזֻקָּקִֽים׃ (ז) וּבִלַּע֙ בָּהָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה פְּנֵֽי־הַלּ֥וֹט ׀ הַלּ֖וֹט עַל־כׇּל־הָעַמִּ֑ים וְהַמַּסֵּכָ֥ה הַנְּסוּכָ֖ה עַל־כׇּל־הַגּוֹיִֽם׃ (ח) בִּלַּ֤ע הַמָּ֙וֶת֙ לָנֶ֔צַח וּמָחָ֨ה אֲדֹנָ֧י יֱהֹוִ֛ה דִּמְעָ֖ה מֵעַ֣ל כׇּל־פָּנִ֑ים וְחֶרְפַּ֣ת עַמּ֗וֹ יָסִיר֙ מֵעַ֣ל כׇּל־הָאָ֔רֶץ כִּ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה דִּבֵּֽר׃ {פ}
(6) GOD of Hosts will make on this mount For all the peoples A banquet of rich viands, A banquet of choice wines— Of rich viands seasoned with marrow, Of choice wines well refined. (7) And on this mount will be destroyed the shroud That is drawn over the faces of all the peoples, And the covering that is spread Over all the nations: (8) Death will be destroyed forever. My Sovereign GOD will wipe the tears away From all faces And will put an end to the reproach of God’s people Over all the earth— For it is GOD who has spoken.
Midrash Tanhuma Ki Tese 11
Rabbi Levi said in the name of Rabbi Aha bar Hanina: As long as the descendants of Amalek are in the world, neither the Name nor the throne is complete. When the descendants of Amalek will have perished, both the name and the throne will be complete.
Midrash Tanhuma Selach Lecha 15
The Holy One (Blessed Be He) said to Israel: "In this world you stray from the mitzvot on account of the Evil Impulse. In the coming age, I will uproot it from you, as the Bible says: "I will remove the heart of stone from your body and give you a heart of flesh; and I will put my spirit into you. Thus I will cause you to follow My laws and faithfully to observe My rules,"

(18) All this has come upon us, yet we have not forgotten You, or been false to Your covenant. (19) Our hearts have not gone astray, nor have our feet swerved from Your path, (20) though You cast us, crushed, to where the sea monster is, and covered us over with deepest darkness. (21) If we forgot the name of our God and spread forth our hands to a foreign god, (22) God would surely search it out, for He knows the secrets of the heart. (23) It is for Your sake that we are slain all day long, that we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered. (24) Rouse Yourself; why do You sleep, O Lord? Awaken, do not reject us forever! (25) Why do You hide Your face, ignoring our affliction and distress? (26) We lie prostrate in the dust; our body clings to the ground. (27) Arise and help us, redeem us, as befits Your faithfulness.
