Using Voices on Sefaria
Your new space for creating & exploring Torah-based content.
Sefaria’s updated three-part platform now includes a dedicated space just for user-created content: Voices on Sefaria.
Voices is the new home of the Sefaria Sheet Editor, our longtime content creation tool built for curating Jewish sources in a digitally shareable format.
That means all user-created content now lives in a separate space from the published books in the Sefaria Library — and users’ existing Sheets can now be accessed through Voices.
Below, we’ll explain more about this new space for Torah-based content and answer questions you may have about using the Sefaria Sheet Editor in its new home.

What can you do with Voices on Sefaria?

Voices on Sefaria allows everyone to participate in the age-old conversation of Torah. Use the Sefaria Sheet Editor to create any Torah-based content — from source sheets and lesson plans to essays and divrei Torah. You can choose whether to keep your content private or publish it publicly, and you can also export Sheets to Google Docs for printing.
With the new Voices on Sefaria interface, you can find other people’s Torah-based content more easily than ever. Browse for Sheets by Topic on the Voices homepage, search by keyword, and sort results by relevance, view count, or date.
Plus, you’ll always know whose content you’re reading with clear authorship information on every Sheet.

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

Do I need separate accounts for Voices on Sefaria and the Sefaria Library?
Nope! You only need one Sefaria account to log into both spaces. In the Library, your Profile has been replaced with Account Settings. In Voices, your login is associated with a Profile (which is where you can find all your existing Sheets).
What will happen to my existing Sheets? Where are they?
If you have previously created content with the Sefaria Sheet Editor, all of your Sheets remain connected to your Sefaria account and now live on Voices. No action is needed on your part — all Sheets work exactly as they previously did (tagging, privacy settings, etc.), and all URLs have been automatically redirected, so Sheets bookmarked or linked elsewhere will continue to function without interruption. To view and edit your Sheets, log into your Sefaria account on Voices. Learn more about using the Sefaria Sheet Editor >>
Will the URLs for my existing Sheets change, or will Sheets I’ve shared and saved still open as they did before?
We’ve already taken care of it! All URLs for existing Sheets have been automatically redirected to their new home on Voices, so any Sheets that have been bookmarked or linked elsewhere will keep functioning without interruption.
Will privacy settings on my Sheets transfer?
Yes, privacy settings are unaffected by our site restructuring. Sheets that were private remain private, and Sheets that were public remain public. You can change the privacy settings on your Sheets by logging into Voices on Sefaria and accessing your Sheets via your Profile. Learn more about privacy settings and publishing Sheets >>
Where do I go to create a new Sheet with this new site structure?
Easy! Head to voices.sefaria.org, make sure you’re logged in with your Sefaria account, and simply tap the Create button in the top-right corner. Learn more about how to create Sheets >>
How do I add sources to Sheets now that the Library and Voices are separate?
These separate spaces remain linked, so there are still two ways to add sources from texts in the Library to your Sheets: from within the Sefaria Sheet Editor, or from the Reader interface in the Library.
  1. Adding sources within the Sefaria Sheet Editor: Log into your Sefaria account on Voices, start a new Sheet or open an existing Sheet, and use the Sheet Editor interface to add, delete or rearrange sources.
  2. Adding sources from the Library Reader interface: Tap a passage of text in the Library to open the Resource Panel and click Add to Sheet. Then use the dropdown to select which of your Sheets you’d like to add to.

Can I still use the Sefaria Library and the Sheet Editor together?
The Sefaria Library and Voices on Sefaria are part of the same Sefaria infrastructure and remain linked to one another. You can move back and forth between reading texts and working on Sheets; the two experiences will just exist in two different browser tabs.
Will all current Sheet features remain as they were?
The Sefaria Sheet Editor itself functions almost the same as it did before — we’ve simply given the tool its own space: Voices on Sefaria. This allows for future development based solely on the needs of content creators, rather than limiting it to the technological environment and user needs of the Library. Now, let’s go over the few minor changes you may notice:
  • In the Sheet Editor: The Divine Name replacement tool, which changes the way the Divine Name appears throughout a Sheet, is now only available in the Sefaria for Google Docs extension, as that is our recommended platform for printing. You can build materials directly in Docs using our extension, or export Sheets from Voices to Google Docs, replace the Divine Name, then print.
  • In the Sheet Editor: Actions previously found in the Resource Panel are now accessible by clicking on the three-dot icon, found at the top-right corner of the Sheet Editor interface. These actions include: Share, Copy, Edit Collections, Export to Google Docs, Share, and Delete Sheet. Learn more about the Resource Menu in Voices >>
  • When viewing a Sheet: You’ll now see an Add to Sheet button under each source in all existing Sheets, making it easier than ever to add a text you see someone else referencing to your own Sheets. Get step-by-step instructions >>
  • Search results on Voices will only return user-created content, not texts from the Library.
What are the new features on Voices?
  • Product switcher: Found in the top-right corner of all three Sefaria products, this button provides seamless navigation between the Sefaria Library, Voices on Sefaria, and Developers on Sefaria.
  • New Sheet viewer interface: Complete with author details and links to relevant Sheet Topic Pages, this interface is designed to enrich the experience of exploring original content. It also includes features that allow you to copy specific sources or whole Sheets into your own profile so you can iterate on other people’s ideas.
  • Topically organized Voices homepage: Newly streamlined layouts display the information you need to find the Sheets, Collections, and authors you’re looking for.
Where can I find the Divine Name Replacement tool?
We’ve moved the Divine Name Replacement tool out of the Sefaria Sheet Editor and into the Sefaria for Google Docs extension. Since the purpose of the Divine Name replacement tool is primarily to avoid printing the Divine Name, we moved it into Google Docs, our recommended platform for printing Sheets.
