Text

In many Ashkenazi communities this piyut is sung to a jolly tune, lightening up the mood as we wrap up the morning service. After the first four lines, we improvise the rest - alphabetically, as in the video above!). Don't hesitate to couple "Hayom" with an English phrase that fits the melody, such as: "Hayom hayom... you'll dance with us. forgive us, love us, redeem us, you'll take a chance on us." ("You" and "us" are part of the formula.) We also like to dance the "ai ai" part of the melody.

This day, may You strengthen us. This day, may You bless us. This day, may You make us prominent. This day, may You seek our good.

Hayom t'amtzenu, hayom t'varchnu, hayom t'gadlenu, hayom tidreshenu l'tova
