Share(טו) יִ֥הְיֽוּ־לְרָצ֨וֹן ׀ אִמְרֵי־פִ֡י וְהֶגְי֣וֹן לִבִּ֣י לְפָנֶ֑יךָ יהוה צוּרִ֥י וְגֹאֲלִֽי׃ {פ}
(15)May the words of my mouth and the prayer of my heart be acceptable to You,O ETERNAL One, my rock and my redeemer.
Shmini means "8". The people had just finished the year long construction period for The Tabernacle and are now anxiously awaiting Hashem's presence in His new dwelling place. Aharon and the other Cohenim (his sons) have just finished a 7-day ordination period and proceed to give the altar a blood bath. All of this is occuring on the 8th day.
ומפני כי עכו"ם הם מן העולם הטבעי, לכך הם* שבעים אומות, כי עולם הטבע נברא בשבעת ימי בראשית. וכנגד שבעה ימי עולם הטבע הם* שבעים אומות, כנגד כל יום - עשרה. והאומה היחידה היתה על הטבע, והיא כנגד השמיני, כי השמיני הוא על הטבע. ולכך ראוי לישראל התורה, שהיא על עולם הטבע. והתורה נבראת קודם שנברא העולם הטבעי, וישראל נבראו גם כן קודם שנברא העולם הטבעי. לכך כל ענין התורה שהיא בשמיני, כי הטבע היא תחת מספר שבעה, ומה שהוא על הטבע הוא שמיני, כמו שיתבאר בפרק שאחר זה (ר"פ ב). ולכך האומה הישראלי*, אשר בחר יהוה יתברך לחלקו, (ו)הם הם נתיחדו בפעולות האלקיות, שהם מצות התורה, לפי מדריגת נפשם האלקית, במה שהיו מוכנים לנבואה ורוח הקדש ולהיות השכינה ביניהם. ועכו"ם לפי מעלתם נתן להם ז' מצות, שהם שבע מצות בני נח (סנהדרין נו:).
