(ה) אלו דברים שאדם יוצא בהן ידי חובתו בפסח, בחטים, בשעורים, בכסמין ובשיפון ובשבלת שועל.
(5) These are the [grains] with which a person may discharge his [obligation to eat matsa] on Pesach: with wheat, with barley, with spelt, and with rye, and with oats.
One only fulfills the obligation to eat matzah by eating one of the five grains, at is is "for seven days, don't eat hametz, eat matzot. If one eats things that could become hametz, one fulfills ones obligation. but other things like rice, millet, kitniyot, one does not fulfill ones obligation, because they can't become hametz.
(ד) מביאין לפני בעל הבית קערה שיש בה שלש מצות ומרור וחרוסת וכרפס או ירק אחר (וחומץ או מי מלח) ושני תבשילין אחד זכר לפסח ואחד זכר לחגיגה ונהגו בבשר וביצה הגה:
They place before the head of the household a plate with three matzot, maror, charoset, karpas or a different green (and vinegar or salt water), and two dishes, one in remembrance of the Pesach and one in remembrance of the Hagigah offering. It was customary to use meat and an egg.
הכל מודים בפסח שמניח פרוסה בתוך שלמה ובוצע מאי טעמא (דברים טז, ג) לחם עוני כתיב
Everyone agrees that on Passover one places the pieces inside the whole and breaks. What is the reason? [ with regard to matzat he phrase] "Bread of affliction" is written (Deut. 16:3) [and the poor typically eat their bread in pieces.]
One recites the blessing [over a whole loaf] and afterwards breaks it.
