still more days

of grace and forgiveness?

And you shall walk in the field,

you shall walk it in innocence

and the bareness and your bare

foot will caress

the sprouts

or wheat 

will stab you sweetly.

 

Or the rain will get you

with its host of pounding drops

on your shoulders, breasts , neck

and fresh head. 

And you shall walk in the wet field

and be filled with quiet

like light at the edge of a cloud.

 

And you shall breathe, breathe

the scent of the furrow

breathe and be calm

and see the sun

in the puddle's golden mirror.

 

And simple, and simple

are the things and alive

and you may touch them

and you may love

and you may, and you may love.

 

You shall walk in the field alone

not burnt in the heat

of the fire in tracks that bristled

with fear and blood.

And a heart returns with sincerety

may you be humble and submissive

like one of the grasses, like one of the people.
