Jewish communities the world over encounter a section of the Torah every Shabbat. This section is known in Hebrew as the “Parashah” or more formally “Parashat HaShavua / פרשת השבוע,” literally “the section (or portion) of the week.” We will learn about how the annual Torah reading cycle came into being and how this cycle affects our experience of the Jewish year. We will explore important passages and themes from ten of the weekly portions. We will also learn about some of the important Torah commentators and explore their insights.
